Project-E

Project-E is a three year ongoing project piloted by ECH club EXCO 2007-2008. The “E” in the word “Project-E” stands for the word Education. This project was created with the simple aim to give to the ECH students and alumni a chance to gain more knowledge and aid them in their professional development so that they can give more to the children that they are education.
We believe that it is important to learn as we teach and that engaging in continual professional development. The activities will be planned by the Exco of ECH Club. The enrichment program organized this year is a workshop titled “Building PETER” (refer to Building PETER write-up for more information).
For the next two years, the future batches of the Exco would be planning other mini events. The events would be related to education. We hope that, through the workshops and events that we organize, each one of us involved, and also the participants would gain something valuable.

Building Peter

Building PETER stands for Building Parents Education, Teachers Education, and Relationships. This workshop is a one day workshop on the 31st May 2008 given by Father Adam and Sister Ching. The workshop will be about working with the children with special needs, involving parents and building positive relationships with the parents, children and families of children with special needs. This workshop is specially organized for the year 2 and above students. The students would be going through a basic education program where they will be learning about the aspects of working with children with special needs. Students would learn how to work with children with special needs and to educate them, as well as to see and learn techniques to work with the children. The objective of this is to equip students with knowledge, and also to enhance our skills in early childhood practice.

Father Adam

Father Adam is an American priest, based in Hong Kong. Presently, he is on his world tour, and would be in Singapore for three weeks from 11th May to 7th June. As part of his trip to Singapore, he would be visiting Ngee Ann Polytechnic on the 31st of May 2008 to conduct a workshop entitled “Building PETER”. He would be sharing his knowledge and provides insights regarding working with children with special needs. We hope that both we and our fellow students would learn much from him. Father Adam has been working with people with special needs for many years, in many different countries. He has been on a tour around the world for many years with his partner, Sister Ching, a nun from India. They have been conducting many programs for parents, families and even siblings on caring for and educating their child or sibling. Father Adam has long years of experience working with people with special needs, not only in Early Childhood, but with people of all ages. Father Adam has published a series of books and comics that serve as additional reading materials to help those close to the people with special needs be able to work better with them.
