First Aid Course

Recently, many of our ECH Club Exco members and some committee members of the HMSS has attended the Standard First Aid Course worth $70 if taken at Red Cross Society conducted by Director of Occupational Safety & Health Institute- Mohd Idhamsahbani Ahmad, together with other trainers and facilitators. This course is held at Jelutung CC on two full Sundays from 9am to 5pm.
You might be thinking that a First Aid Course would be dull and serious. But what had proven us wrong is that we’ve enjoyed that interactive and enriching session together with other members of the public. We had fun, learnt first aid, and met many people from different walks of life.
Throughout the course, we've covered on the bandaging, CPR, techniques of transporting casualties, managing emergencies like having airway obstruction, choking, bleeding, fractures and much more. Learning how to put casualties to recovery position from unconsciousness or sub-consciousness was one part that was quite fun. During the bandaging, we watched as the instructors wrapped our classmates up into a MUMMY! We covered a lot of things and had definitely gained much from the course which would be useful in times of emergency.
We played the roles of casualties, where participants were to try different ways of transporting casualties, putting “unconscious victims” into recovery position, practicing of CPR, and tried different bandages with our partner, thus putting learning into hands-on experience which serves as strengthener to our understanding. A mini test which comprises of some multiple-choice questions and CPR individual assessment was conducted at the end of the course. Upon passing the test and requirements, each of us will received a mini first aid kit, a wallet size card, which states us as a first aider for 3 years.
Proudly, we stand as a member of CERT (Community Emergency Rescue Team), which prepares to protect and save the community in events of catastrophic disaster. Without the link of first aiders, lives could be taken away within that few precious minutes which could really make a difference in lives. To be able to preserve lives until medical aid is available is a very noble role indeed!
We too, urge the public to build themselves with First Aid skills, so that more lives could be saved in times of emergency, and to serve the public to be a better and safer place to live in. It’ll be wonderful to build on preparedness of people in case of crisis.

Modern Classroom Pictures

This is the modern classroom we were talking about the other time. We created the learning classroom with the hard work of our exco members and also support from the school. The room was viewed by various people during the open house 2008 and we are sure that we have given many a little insight of what ECH is about and we hope that the ones who have viewed the room have enjoyed themselves.We feel that it was a successful project because we had a few children in the room and they could find activities to participate in on their own, without any much instructions.
The few activities that we carried out in the room, was music and movement, which is essential in early childhood, to help children develop motor skills, spatial awareness and also many area like language and mathematics. We also had a story card activity which was to teach the students to use their imagination and creativity. Lastly, we had some homemade playdough laid out, for the participants to explore and create something. This activity is to help children express creativity and also help them in their fine motor development.
Thank you to the volunteers and the exco for their hard work!
