Child Care Seminar 2008 (10th Anniversary) was held from 21st to 23rd August 2008 at Suntec Convention Center. The event was jointly organised by:
Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and Association for Early Childhood Educators (Singapore) (AECES),
and supported by:
Advent Links-SAUC, Cherie Hearts, EtonHouse-International Education Group, KLC-School of Education, Learning Vision, Modern Montessori International, NTUC Childcare, OMEP, Pat's Schoolhouse, and Zee School.
Early Childhood Club was involved in this seminar, as we had a booth sponsored by AECES to sell teaching aids like our hand made puppets and Harry Potter wands. ECH Club booth were only present on the 22nd August, and not for all three days. This is our first external event, and we were pleased with the response as it was overwhelming.
Puppets were made according to finger rhymes and stories- Little Red Riding Hood, 3 Little Pigs, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Golilocks and the Three Bears, Humpty Dumpty and 2 Little Dicky Birds.
All sets of puppets were sold, except for the display sets, and we have taken orders from people who are very interested.
Great remarks were made by the people, especially commenting on the creativity.
There were alot more booths in the ballrooms and foyer, selling all kinds of products related to the Early Childhood Field, such as classroom furnitures, manipulatives, charts, musiccal instruments, story books, children's songs, thermometers and motor skills development products. National Library Board were also present, displaying brochures of children's stories and children's services handbook. They are currenly looking for volunteers to join them in the weekly storytelling session for an hour.
Organisations like EtonHouse, AECES and Wheelock Colledge-RTRC were present to offer academic and professional development activities, including Diplomas and Bachelor in Early Childhood programs.
There are concurrent sessions going on for the three days. Presenters deliver talks regarding various aspects concerned in Early Childhood Field, including 'Teaching Kids to Tell Stories', Developing Skills with Songs, Rhymes, Chants, Poems and Finger Plays', 'Yoga-Path to Wellness', 'Imaginative Ensemble Story Teaching:Creative Thinking and Telling', 'Portfoilio Assessment: Families and Teachers Working Together to Support Young Children's Learning', 'Riding the Waves of Early Childhood Leadership n Singapore', etc. Some of the presenters such as Ms Sukuna Suppiah and Mrs Lucy Quek were from RTRC and are lectures in Ngee Ann Polytechnic- Early Childhood Education.
This is a very enriching seminar for Early Childhood related personnels to attend, establishing links and opening the path to further advancements in future.

ECH Club has just organised a one day workshop as we promoted, having with us, Father Adam and Sister Ching. Both of them have at least 30 years of experience and have been working together the past 25years. They have published several books together and our students had an eye-opener today as they went through the workshop. Students have expressed that they did learn somethings that they have not known before and the Exco is very happy that this event was a success. Big thanks to Father Adam, Sister Ching, all the exco members who have worked very hard to make today's event possible and also Jonathan for introducing Father and Sister to us.
